Bio

The alter ego of Clarence Gaines, Lou Draws blends his love of classic R&B and modern sounds to create music that resonates across generations & cultures. Pulling inspiration from the ’70s – ’90s soul, funk & R&B, Lou curates an undeniable vibe bound to have the listener’s feet tapping, head nodding and pressing repeat.

The Cleveland Ohio native picked up the saxophone in the fifth grade and has been on his musical journey ever since. While in high school, Clarence scored his first film, “Hip Hop 4 Life” which screened at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival. From there he continued to score films and documentaries and produce for local hip-hop artists.

Unfulfilled and frustrated with the state of modern music in 2010, Clarence created the alter ego, Lou Draws with the album ‘Juicealicious: An Old School Love Affair’ a “throwback” album based on the New Jack Swing sound from the late ’80s and early ’90s.

Lou’s latest release ‘Lou’s Grooves: Ventura Boulevard to Rodeo Road’ pays homage to the timeless sounds of The Gap Band, Cameo, The Time and Lakeside.
